In the mangrove areas of Ecuador, many fisherman were already struggling prior to the Covid-19 health crisis due to a local fishing ban on mangrove crabs. These economic struggles worsened with the outbreak, because traveling the distance to the city for food and medicine had become much more complicated. Amiguitos del Oceano raised money through their networks, worked with local markets to prepare food kits, and engaged local leaders to deliver the kits to communities in need. 546 families received direct support and another 921 were connected with local government institutions for additional help.
