Eliminating financial and geographical barriers to accessing essential drugs for people living with non-communicable diseases.
The people living with non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and cancer have no access to healthcare services and essential drugs.
Hence, the project is providing free healthcare services and drugs to the poor and underserved people who are living with Non-communicable diseases. This project is located in Nigeria. Currently 425 people are receiving treatment at no cost to them and more are being registered. The people under treatment have achieved good blood sugar and blood pressure control and they are now free from complications. The people living with non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases and who cannot afford their essential drugs attends our regular Friday clinic. This project is quite innovative because people are coming regularly to the NCD Friday clinic to refill their essential drugs and more people are coming for screening to know their status. It is transformative in changing the people’s perceptions about NCDs that was initially regarded as a spiritual attack with some stigma. Presently the people are happy to announce their health status because their increased knowledge about the illness.
The impact is great in reducing the complications and deaths among the people living with non-communicable disease.
