The Beam Magazine

A project by Beam Media

The Beam takes an inclusive approach to communicating the SDGs by translating expert knowledge, and bringing to light perspectives from those on the ground
We started The Beam magazine three years ago to create some hype around sustainable development. We knew that there were already a number of publications made by and for experts, but nothing that was speaking to a broader audience. By taking a less niche approach, we help get the message across to those not in the industry.

In The Beam, we invite people whose projects, ideas or research are influencing or impacting sustainable development in a meaningful way: people we admire, to participate and share their expertise with our readers. We work together with these organisations or individuals to co-create their story, essentially guiding them to develop better storytelling about their project, to translate their expertise into a captivating narrative, and into something that will encourage people to act. Already more than 200 experts have participated in our publication. What we’ve build is a platform to help this remarkable community to share their knowledge with the greater public.

We’ve made it our duty to portrait a diversity of people who come from different countries, cultures, and social and political backgrounds. Anyone who is participating in the transition is invited to contribute, to share their knowledge. We all have a lot to learn from people who may not have access to mainstream media, such as female entrepreneurs in regions of Africa, or indigenous activists in South America.

This is how we impact people. By going beyond the current realm of sustainability information, by translating knowledge from experts, and bringing to light perspectives not usually heard by those on the ground. We capture all these voices in a balanced and comprehensive way as part of a critical movement, and present them in vibrant designs that speaks to a wider audience, because we believe everybody is part of the future of sustainability.
