Ukraine – During challenging times, it is important to shine a spotlight of hope and solidarity on people choosing to make a difference around the world. The youth movement Let’s Do it Ukraine established the humanitarian project Let’s Do It Ukraine SOS which is flipping the script from division into unity by mobilizing and scaling up networks that help create safe shelters in Ukraine. The project is supported by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, All-Ukrainian Youth Center.
Since the war started in Ukraine in 2022, Let’s Do It Ukraine SOS has brought together a network of volunteers, organizations, departments, municipalities, donors, philanthropists, and opinion leaders to help civilians who suffered as a result of military actions within Ukraine. The project saves the lives of civilians in Ukraine by providing essentials: information, food, hygiene, basic medicines, clothing, and temporary shelter. The project has created a new format of safe shelters that can be made in all places where military operations are taking place. They set up shelters in old houses, creating co-living and coworking centers in one house for groups of 5 to 20 people so that both civilians and activists have a safe place to live and work remotely.
Their network also organizes humanitarian warehouses in major cities, as well as humanitarian hubs and shelters for temporarily displaced persons. In addition, they provide international and local logistics of humanitarian goods, and resettlement of victims to temporary shelter areas abroad.
Ukraine – The hub initiative in the capital grew into an entire humanitarian structure in just 70 days in 18 regions of Ukraine in 2022. More than 1,800 activists from different parts of Ukraine are taking part in the project. It is strengthened by cooperation with ministries, departments, military and city administrations, social services, and the national platform “Sodeistvie.” In 2022, they received and distributed more than 320 tons of humanitarian aid to over 390,000 civilians.
Since being recognized as an Honourable Mention, Let’s Do it Ukraine continues to be active on the ground. Let’s Do it Ukraine organizes the “Good Kitchen” distribution of free hot meals in the frontline and affected regions with the assistance of the Charities Aid Foundation America (CAF America) and financial support from the PepsiCo Foundation in cooperation with PepsiCo Ukraine as part of the international food safety program Food for Good. In 2023, the project distributed 33,300 hot meals in the frontline and affected regions, and an additional 1,000 hot meals were distributed in March 2024, with mobile volunteer teams from Let’s Do It Ukraine SOS providing food to affected communities weekly.
