Resilience without borders – CUFA transforms inequalities into opportunities in favelas across the world.
Born in Brazil’s favelas and now active in every Brazilian state and 60+ countries, UN SDG Action Awards Resilience winner Central Única das Favelas (CUFA) is transforming systemic inequality into opportunity through education, culture, sports, entrepreneurship, and citizenship.
In a country where more than 16 million people live in favelas with limited access to basic services, CUFA builds solutions for the community, from the community. From its Mothers of the Favela program—which supported 17 million people during the pandemic—to rapid disaster relief after Brazil’s 2024 floods, CUFA combines emergency response with long-term empowerment.

CUFA’s reach is vast—running 5,000+ community projects, creating thousands of jobs, and bringing favela leaders to global stages like the G20. Its message is clear: the favela is not a place of lack, but a hub of talent, creativity, and innovation.
Every school built, every youth trained, and every entrepreneur funded moves the world closer to a future where no one is left behind.
Join us in spotlighting the Heroes of Tomorrow. From mobilizing crisis relief to shaping global policy, winners like CUFA prove that resilience is not just about surviving—it’s about showing that everyone has the right to thrive.
